Can anyone explain some of the issues between the Eastern and Western Churches?

I spent some time at a festival fundraiser for a Greek Orthodox Church and some members of the congregation expressed a negative view of Roman Catholicism. I'm not really familiar with the history of the split between the two, and I was just wondering what caused it historically and why there is still some residual animosity. Can anyone help me with this?
