How can I convince my Mom to get me a red spotted newt?

don't listen to myth_understood, she answers marriage and divorce answers mostly i think this is her first reptile answer. but i do say get one but don't snag one from your yard, to me it is cruel to take a beautiful wild animal out of it's habitat unless it was breed for that. be careful with these cute guys though. enjoy and please take good care of them.
