Which argument has more merit: "Every design has a designer." or "Every coding system has an encoder"?

Both arguments are senseless when applied to the origin of the universe and the evolution of life. There is no design to the universe, just as their is no coding system within DNA. Both are human constructs used to explain or describe each. In my opinion, the word 'pattern' would be a better selection than 'code' when describing DNA.
