How did mohammad ascend to heaven as seen in sura17?

the hadiths are confusing. one says allah lowered a golden ladder from the first heaven, another says allah lowered a rope and mohammad climbed up to heaven with the help of gabrial, then another says he rode buraq, a flying horse. the night journey is the most trusted hadith of islam but this is confusing. so which one is the true way mohammad got up to heaven?
